Construction Plan
What is your plan for preventing soil erosion?
A fact is that erosion is the process of moving rocks from one location to another. Our plan for preventing soil erosion will be that at all times we have vegetation on our terrain because in some experiments that we did in science class, it showed that by having vegetation the less erosion happens, and without vegetation the more erosion happens. So in this case it is a fact that the more vegetation we have, the less erosion happens. Another fact is that the vegetation holds the soil from moving because the roots of all vegetation are strongly connected to the ground, so the soil around the roots won’t move away. A fact is that erosion has four agents of erosion that are wind, water, glaciers and gravity. Some examples of gravity are landslides and rockfalls. To prevent the rockfalls and landslides we made an eco-friendly wall made of big rocks stuck together by a steel net to prevent the rocks that fall to harm the tourists and our piece of land. Where the landslide happens, we will prevent the landslides by adding vegetation to keep the soil from not moving and also by adding a rock wall.
How will you allow for good drainage around your development?
A quotation fact is “Drainage is the removal of water from the soil profile by natural or artificial means.” When it naturally rains, we don’t need to add any tunnels or pipes, we will just leave plenty of green space in the camping grounds for that when the water hits the ground, it can be absorbed by the soil naturally, avoiding floods. We will have an underground hole made with cement that measures 20 meters by 10 meters and 10 meters below ground. There, we can keep the clean water. We will also have a bathroom drainage where we will dispose bathroom waste, which it will also be taken by the garbage company. The bathroom waste will be taken by an underground drainage tube and be disposed to the bathroom waste drainage that measures 20 by 10 meters and 10 meters below ground to keep all the human waste from the bathrooms. To connect everything we will have underground tubes so the water/bathroom waste can pass through there. Another fact is that to make sure the waste passes we need to connect all the tubes so when they flush the toilet waste can slide through the tubes. To make it eco-friendly we will make sure the tubes are well connected while the water passes through the tubes so it won’t spill, harm, and contaminate the soil by the human waste and bathroom waste. To add on with the facts, if human waste spill on the development the animals living there or the nature could be damaged and die because of the spilling, since they think it’s water. Our drainage tubes are going to be underground so that the surface can be kept natural, won’t be shown, and so that we can be eco friendly to nature. A fact is that most of the human livings have a drainage system so we need to keep in mind to do it correctly on our development.
How will you protect your development from flooding, rockfall and landslides?
A fact is that flooding, rockfalls and landslides are all caused by erosion. To protect our environment we will make sure to add a wall where the river finishes, to prevent from flooding. The wall to prevent flooding will be with rocks so when the river passes through the wall, the water will become purified and it will pass slowly so there is not a mess on our development. A fact is that when water passes through rocks in a long time the water will be purified so it can be used since it is now clean. So both the rock wall is good for our safety and excellent for our water needs. We will also have a water storage area to keep clean water to drink from and to use it for any other necessary things. A fact is that some people have died because they have been trapped in the middle of a rock fall or accidently caught in the middle of a landslide and have been killed. That’s why we must keep the campers from this terrible accidents. Finally, we will have big strong walls to protect the surroundings of the rock fall and the landslide to make sure no rocks are falling to the development and the people who are hiking or repelling are safe while having their camping experience. Also, the rock walls near the landslides and rockfalls are not made by concrete, but instead of big rocks held together by a net made of steel. A fact is that this walls are eco-friendly because the walls can let water come through, but the wall can’t let the big and dangerous rocks that are falling down, nor the land that is sliding can come through.
How will you dispose of garbage that builds up while your development is being constructed and later on, while it’s being used?
To dispose garbage we will have many trash cans and recycling bins for visitors or clients who throw their trash inside depending on what type of trash it is. All the trash is organized in different bins. To take away the garbage from our development we will hire a company to come once every week and collect our trash and send it to the city where all the trash gets collected. When the bins are full, we will leave it outside of our development, making sure it won’t make a mess outside and then the buses come and get all the trash away. If we don’t take care of the trash that we send outside, animals will come and open the garbage bags and start to eat the waste. A fact is that if we don’t guard the trash, the animals may eat the toxics in the bag and die, this happens because the toxic and plastic in the trash is poisonous for them. If we don’t take our trash from the bins outside of the camps, a fact is that people won’t want to come over again because of how dirty it looks. A fact is that the trash inside the garbage cans, in a few days may start to smell bad. After that, when no trash is on the bins, we take the bins and place it again where they were before. For that, we have 2 bins of everything to rotate them for when one is outside full waiting for the trash truck to pick it up, and one in the inside for campers to use. A fact is that if we don’t pick up trash, we are harming even more our terrain and environment because of the smell that trash produce. Also, while the development is being constructed, we will have the same procedure to dispose our garbage. We will have this same system while we are constructing because one fact is that always the people who construct are very messy with the environment.
Is the soil appropriate for the type of development you want to build or do you need to bring in other soil? What type of soil do you need?
No, we don’t need other type of soil. We don’t need another type of soil because the soil in our terrain is full of vegetation and by that one fact is that we are eco-friendly to the environment and we have a lot of trees and plants which keeps the soil from moving. One fact is that if there is more vegetation the less soil is moving so the soil we have won’t have much trouble on our development. Also our soil is perfect for construction because it is easy to work with and move around with machines. Continuing, another fact is that this soil retains water and retains nutrients. Another fact is that, it has fertile, and has a strong granular structure. This soil type is best for our camp because it is easy to walk on and move around with. This soil type is a loamy type of soil which is great for vegetation because it has rich nutrients.
What is the best type of material to use in constructing structures in your development so that you protect your development against future weathering, root pry or acid rain?
A fact is that weathering is the process of breaking rocks into sediments. Sometimes weathering can be very destructive and thats why most people would consider to use cement in their developments. But in our development, we want to use the less cement possible in order to keep the environment the way it is. We want to use the less cement possible because a fact is, that the cement in Monterrey is made by limestone and making cement harms the environment. In our terrain we will use many eco-friendly materials that respect the environment. For example the walls of the river to prevent soil and rock from eroding, will be made by big pieces of rocks that are strong and hard that will keep the land and other rocks to come through. The rocks will be inside a net with small holes. This helps to prevent the weathered rocks from moving. A fact is that weathering has some agents which are, water, wind, glaciers, ice wedging, root pry, oxidation and acid rain. Root pry would be in our favor because the roots in the ground will connect to the wall preventing the strong rocks to move our wall. In fact, acid Rain happens in the Huasteca due to Monterrey’s pollution. A fact is that when you add acid to limestone, the limestone reacts and fizzles due to the acid. To prevent the acid rain to damage our development, we will make sure that the big rocks in the wall and the cement do not contain limestone. This will stop the acid rain to react with the cement/rocks preventing the rocks from breaking slowly when they fizzle.
